Evolve Q&A

Evolve founder Laura

There are a lot of reasons to love Evolve. The staple British beauty brand has been championing natural and organic formulas for years, but there’s always been something special about them that’s set them apart from the rest. Their Hyaluronic Serum 200 flies off our shelves and have you ever felt their Tropical Blossom Body Butter melt onto skin? (Take it from me, you need to).

Evolve takes high quality natural and organic ingredients and transforms them into moments of (affordable) beauty bliss with results worth raving about. But what’s more, this humble British brand is leading the way in sustainable beauty, recently becoming the industry’s first ‘plastic-negative’ beauty brand. Evolve have a number of sustainability initiatives that include everything from overhauling packaging to going carbon neutral. For these reasons and so many more, we made Evolve our latest Brand of the Month and sat down with founder Laura to get the inside scoop…

What sets Evolve apart from other skincare brands?

“Together with a small team of artisans, I design and make each product carefully by hand in our eco-studio in Hertfordshire, England. This ensures the freshness of the precious antioxidants in the natural oils, butters and extracts.”

Radiant Glow Mask

What inspired you to create Evolve?

“I am inspired by the appreciation for nature that I learned as a young girl from my Romanian grandmother and the passion and dedication I saw my mother show when she was an entrepreneur in her own right when I was a little girl.”

What is your favourite beauty routine?

“I have my favourites [...] like the Gentle Cleansing Melt, the Daily Renew Cream, the Miracle Facial Oil and Bio-Retinol + C Booster for my face. In terms of bodycare, I love using the Tropical Blossom Body Polish as a lovely exfoliant and the Superfood Shine Natural Shampoo.”

What is your beauty non-negotiable?

“A beauty non-negotiable for me is protecting my skin from external stressors, such as UV rays and blue light - especially now a lot of us are working in front of our computers for extended periods of time. I love using our Climate Veil tinted SPF to protect my skin and give a dewy finish!”

Why is environmental impact so important to Evolve?

“The wider beauty industry is responsible for producing enormous amounts of waste, chemicals and carbon which has a detrimental impact on the environment, so it’s important to us to do everything we can to help. We want to push the boundaries of green beauty as we truly respect our incredible planet. This means we are always looking for ways to improve our environmental impact, which is why we make products that are kinder to both our skin and the environment.”

Miracle Mask

Do you believe beauty can ever be truly sustainable?

“There has been fantastic growth in awareness about the importance of sustainability in the beauty industry. So many brands are taking steps towards becoming more sustainable, but for us at Evolve our aim is not only to become sustainable but to eventually aim to become regenerative. This means that we are taking steps to ensure our impact is not zero, but actually positive.”

What are you currently working on in terms of Evolve’s sustainability credentials?

“One ongoing project that we are working on is our annual sustainability report. Within this report you will find the steps we are taking to become a regenerative business, including becoming the UK’s first plastic negative beauty brand, switching our packaging to grass paper cartons, and constantly working on our COSMOS certifications.”

What is the future of the beauty industry?

“I believe that the future of the beauty industry actually means taking a step back. Natural and organic ingredients have been used in skincare for centuries, and they’re also better for our Planet.”

What is the change you’d most like to see?

“I hope that the future of the beauty industry means that more consumers are aware of the impact their products have on the world around them, and steps are taken towards reversing the effects of the beauty waste problem.”

Body Contour

We’re dying to know - what new products are you working on?

“We have a lot of exciting things coming up for Evolve, including developing brand new products that we have been talking about for a while. From expanding current ranges to creating brand new innovative products we know our customers will love - this year is definitely going to be filled with lots of exciting launches.”

So, what does the future look like for Evolve?

“The future for Evolve is full of taking steps and using our initiative to take even more steps in our sustainability journey whilst creating new products that are designed with both your skin and our planet in mind. In our annual sustainability report we spoke about some of our future goals on our journey to becoming a regenerative business. From our aim to map and offset the emissions of the rest of our supply chain by the end of 2021, to developing an inclusive interview process in order to ensure everyone is given an equal opportunity in joining and onboarding our team - you can find out more about the future of Evolve in our sustainability report.”

It’s safe to say that we will be fangirling over Evolve for some time to come. With the demand for sustainable beauty on the rise, we see big things coming for this brand.
