What’s a typical day like for you?
A typical day starts with an early rise at about 6.30am for breakfast with my baby Henry and husband Alex. Emails start flying in but I really try to spend this precious time with my family and not looking at my phone! I work in the office three days a week and a typical day involves arriving at about 8.30am. I’ll check my emails and reply to anything urgent until 9am, then meet with Aurelia’s Marketing Director over a cup of tea to talk about current and upcoming initiatives. We’re still a small company so all the teams work closely together and we have regular meetings between departments. Thursdays are normally spent at press meetings which can mean a lot of travelling between appointments! As I spend three days a week in the office I tend to stay until about 7pm, sometimes later.
What part of your job do you enjoy the most?
I love the freedom that comes with having my own business; making decisions about the products, the packaging and the messages of the brand. What I find really exciting is the sheer number of people I’ve been able to meet along the way; from passionate customers to beauty editors and make-up artists, the beauty industry is full of the most creative and interesting people so it’s great to be a part of it.
What are your everyday beauty essentials?
I always start by thoroughly cleansing using the Aurelia Probiotic Skincare Miracle Cleanser. I follow the cleanser with our Revitalise & Glow Serum, a really lightweight but potent little product that smells divine and adds instant radiance to my skin. I’ll then use one of our Cell Revitalise Moisturisers depending on whether it’s morning or evening. Three times a week I’ll exfoliate with our incredible Refine & Polish Miracle Balm which leaves skin silky soft and even-toned. My all-time favourite Aurelia product has to be the Cell Repair Night Oil. I have always loved using facial oils as they benefit the skin in so many ways, so I had to formulate one that beat all the rest! It smells incredible and leaves my skin so luminous and balanced. I use it about four times a week.
What has been the highlight of your career so far?
For me it was being named as the first ever CEW (Cosmetic Executive Women) Digital Achiever 2014. The award is sponsored by Google and recognises digital excellence in the beauty industry. When I launched Aurelia Probiotic Skincare in 2013 all I had was a website and online tools like social media. It was such a shock to win but an amazing feeling to be acknowledged by such a prestigious organisation.
What’s your advice for aspiring entrepreneurs?
Don’t compromise on your principles. Make sure that everything you do fits with your brand’s philosophy and work hard! Things take longer and cost more than you think, so be prepared for some highs and lows along the way. It will be worth it in the end!
What’s your one ‘do’ and one ‘don’t’ at work?
Do communicate with your team and don’t lose sight of who’s accountable!
