Ila's skincare range is completely free from synthetic chemicals and contains a rare level of organic purity which is achieved by sourcing the finest ingredients directly from local producers who cultivate and harvest the raw ingredients in harmony with nature. Ila's skincare products are artisanal and hand blended in a consciously created environment of peace and purity in the heart of the English countryside, to ensure that the finished holistic products contain all the exquisitely pure energy from nature. Ila is the Sanskrit word for earth and is the name of the Hindu Goddess of truth, who is associated with flow and refreshment. ila is also the source of refreshment. There is a sacred place in Northern India at the confluence of the Sarasvati and Drishdvati Rivers. The place is known as Ilayaspada or the place of ila, and it is called the holiest place on earth in Vedic texts.
Ila skincare products are not formulated commercially, but are hand blended with care and skill. ila's artisan approach to production ensures that each product is suffused with good energy. ila's custom of blending products by hand was inspired by the traditions of Ayurveda. ila uses sacred geometry (yantras) and chanting (sound being the purest form of energy) to instil positive energy when making ila products by hand.
Ila Spa organic products are created by ila's founder, Denise Leicester and ila's product design scientist, Dennis Hazleton. The specialist production process for all ila products takes place at our dedicated production facility in the Cotswolds. The synergistic formulations blend the potency and power of organic raw ingredients with the advanced bio-scientific approach of ila in-house formulation team to create the most effective and holistic range of ila skincare products. Ila offers the freshest possible products by only ever producing small batches of each product at one time. In this way, Ila is able to continue the artisanal tradition of hand blending each skincare product and also to ensure that all ila products are delivered in first class condition.
ILA Product Information Organic: ila products use only essential oils and vegetable oils that are organically certified by accredited organisations such as the Soil Association and ECOCERT with the exception of ila's rose otto and hydrodistilled jasmine oils. ila is currently applying to become an ECOCERT certified company. ila also uses raw ingredients sourced directly from local communities who use traditional farming and processing methods. They do not use chemicals or intensive farming techniques. Where they harvest from the wild, their harvesting practices are intrinsically sustainable, often utilising tools and methods that have been used in the local communities for generations.
Processing: ila's organically certified essential oils are steam distilled rather than using chemical distillation. These powerful oils are used in the optimum amount in each formulation to provide maximum benefit. ila's vegetable oils are cold pressed, which retains all the natural goodness of each oil. ila products contain beneficial aloe vera juice instead of water wherever possible. ila's aloe vera juice is produced using a spray drying method (instead of chemical extraction) which allows the beneficial properties of the plant to be retained.
No chemicals: ila products contain no artificial additives or synthetic chemicals, enhancers or stabilisers. ila believes an orange is best eaten fresh and apply the same philosophy to ila products. ila's natural ingredients are effective because they are exceptionally pure. At the same time, they conform to the highest standards of laboratory testing and analysis to ensure safety.ila's approach blends ancient wisdom and knowledge and modern scientific research and techniques to ensure the efficacy of each ila skincare product. Natural Preservatives: All ila preservation systems are naturally derived and based on aniseed, cinnamon and balsam. By using only natural preservatives, ila ensures that the beneficial effects of the natural ingredients are not compromised by synthetic preservation systems. ila products do have a shorter shelf life (12 months unopened and 6 months once opened if used correctly with lids firmly replaced after use) than luxury skincare products which use artificial means to offer durability. However, by using natural preservative systems, ila avoids any possible health risk from artificial preservatives.
Patch Testing and Allergies: All ila skincare products are formulated to be extremely gentle and are used by many people with sensitive skin. Nevertheless, a patch test is recommended to be carried out at least 24 hours before first application for your peace of mind. The easiest place to patch test is the inside of the elbow. Note that many of ila products use nut derived oils such as argan oils and therefore may not be suitable for those with nut allergies.
Packaging: ila aims to adopt packaging solutions that are eco-friendly where possible. At present, ila packaging has the following recyclable elements: a) Outer packaging: this is always card from sustainably managed forests which is fully recyclable. b) Inner packaging: ila products are packaged in glass containers treated with an organic spray and are fully recyclable. Ila plastic lids are polypropylene which is also fully recyclable in the UK. Where lids are made from urea, this is not currently recyclable under the UK recycling systems (although it is recyclable in theory). Ila intends to make any future plastic packaging entirely biodegradable. c)Animal Friendly: ila has never and will never test on animals and does not use any raw ingredients that have been tested on animals. None of the ingredients are of animal origin except beeswax and royal jelly. All ila products are suitable for vegetarians.
